Insists on downloading huge update before showing the map!

Its a nice app whose main use is a very good mall map.
But somehow the designers did not consider how long their updates take to download over a cell phone connection in an actual mall.
(Hint: about 10 minutes over LTE).
The problem is: the app remains unusable until that update fully downloads!
Which is a disaster when I need a map fast!
Which is always the first time I open the app that week, so theres zero chance its up to date then.

Dear developers, please put the update on an asynchronous thread in the background and do the legwork to put in the "waiting for update" messages for the bits that actually require an update but let the maps be used right out of the cache!
